Modeselektor return to Glasgow
Oct 7th, 2007 by Tom Donohue
German electro duo Modeselektor return to Numbers at Glasgow Art School at the beginning of November for a live show as part of their current tour to promote their new album 'Happy Birthday'.
Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary hail from Berlin and have been producing music under the Modeselektor name for several years, but it was the release of their 2005 debut album 'Hello Mom' on Ellen Allien's Bpitch Control label that gave them their breakthrough, mixing elements of electro, glitch, booty, hip-hop and downright filth, but with a slight twist of humour and self-mockery. It spawned a rave monster in the form of the track 'Kill Bill Vol. 4', got us trying to decipher the French rhymes of guest vocalists TTC, and was definitely a firm fixture on our CD players last year.
And after promising that the next album would be "due in about 8 years", we're pleasantly surprised to find that the next one's already here. Entitled 'Happy Birthday', it's more of the same, with an expanded list of guests and cohorts on the album, including the return of TTC (albeit glitched up to the max), Maximo Park, Thom Yorke and Otto Von Schirach.
Modeselektor last appeared at the Art School in a bumper Euro line-up along with Sleeparchive and Monolake. This time they bring their live show back to Glasgow, with all the stage antics that seem to have become their trademark, supported by Rustie (Stuffrecords), Goodhand and Jackmaster, plus disco and dancehall in the Vic Bar from Martin Rubadub and Optimo's JD Twitch.
Friday 2 November, Glasgow Art School. Tickets on sale now priced £12 from www.northsouthdivide.com.
