A new techno night for Edinburgh
Edinburgh's techno scene gets new life breathed into it when a new monthly night kicks off on November 9th.
Kontrol (yes all the cool nights have to start with a K these days) launches at the spiritual home of techno in Edinburgh, Studio 24. Don't expect nosebleed though; the first night is going to be more of a European affair with special guests Le Chic - a two-woman, live electronic tag-team signed to DJ Hell's International Deejay Gigolo Records, and Kevin Gorman, another artist on Gigolo, and label boss of Mikrowave. Plus, resident JD Pyz (Split/Access).
It seems like ages ago now that Edinburgh's techno heads were spoilt for choice with great nights week-in week-out going on at The Venue, The Honeycomb and Studio 24, catering for all tastes; whether you liked it hard, soft, or, well, girly.
And what now? A small number of nights such as Substance (at Henry's Cellar Bar), Jackhammer (at Ego) and Jakn (also at Studio 24) are proudly holding it down, but it seems that no big all-uniting night has stepped in and filled the void.
But isn't this because the majority of the techno fraternity in Edinburgh has simply settled down, got cashmere knitwear and had kids? We'll just have to wait and see.
Update: JD Pyz now won't be playing on the 9th but will be replaced by elexx (AVXR/Tribal Waves).
Friday 9 November, Studio 24, Edinburgh (and then second Friday of every month). £8.
